There’s an unrestricted, free ‘art show’ beneath our feet everywhere we go in the urban environment.
Hard surfaces contain a multitude of coloured markings controlling traffic and pedestrians and indicating services buried below the surface. Often these markings are partly obscured by the nature of surrounding surfaces, such as the paving, tarmac and other textural surfaces on which they have been applied.
It is my intention, by photographing these man-made urban markings and darkening the surface area around them, to isolate them, thus allowing a full appreciation of their form, graphic, textural and abstract qualities.
