Out of the Black is a series of images I worked on over a number of years and different diving projects. The underwater world is often portrayed as bright blue, clear seas, golden sandy bottoms and colourful tropical fish but the world I know is much darker, both metaphorically and visually. Decent through rough waves often reveals a cold, dark stillness and a feeling that you don’t belong there, the risk is yours and anything could happen. As you scour the murky water column you know that something could come out of the black from any direction. It’s simultaneously terrifying and exhilarating. The Hammerhead is a separate entry and not part of this series but it wouldn’t let me seperate it. It’s a stand alone entry.
