The port of Gran Canaria and its sea wall served as the backdrop for this urban scape, making use of minimal components and their symbolism to develop a visual narrative. The stark concrete wall dominating the lower third of the photo conveying its exact purpose – that of a barrier transmitting a feeling of confinement at first glance. Through the photographic composition the eye is quickly drawn upwards transcending the wall towards the sky and the drifting cloud evoking the sensation of an escape. A muted colour palette, negative space and clean lines have been used not only to transmit a sense of calm but to place the focus on the metaphorical dimension of the image.
