The light in Utah’s many slot canyons is truly exquisite. Their narrow, winding walls allow sunlight to filter down from above, bouncing off the sandstone and creating a remarkable interplay of color and shadow. The best conditions for visiting and photographing these canyons are on a clear, sunny day, with the most dramatic light typically occurring around high noon. I was fortunate to explore one of these incredible canyons in May 2026. The photographic opportunities seemed endless, with an ever-changing variety of compositions—from intricate, abstract patterns to clean, minimalist scenes—revealing themselves around every bend.
