Title: Curved-Concrete

About the series:

The Curved-Concrete series highlights curves in modern Brazilian architectural projects in Brasília, Niterói and Belo Horizonte cities. The term “Curved” alludes to the perhaps most notable signature in Oscar Niemeyer’s projects. The preference for images with closed angles seeks to convey an abstract idea, which isolates a basic form and excludes the whole from the construction, favoring simplicity. However, the ambiguous name of the “Concrete” series, in contrast to the Abstract, becomes more appropriate, as the term reinforces the striking presence of this renowned architect and refers to the main brand of the modernist movement: the apparent constructive material often abdicates from finishing.
