SAND DUNES IN WINTER = Recalling a conversation with a friend, a question arose. How do you illustrate sound? Having spent may years working in motion picture, I because fixated on the notion of conveying the auditory sensations of a place, using image only. I chose a secluded beach on the western tip of Fire Island on the last snow of the winter for it’s distinct acoustic quality. This image is of a snow-covered, echoless expanse. Before me is a trail, marked simply by pickets and red-tagged cord, marking the edge of the world, wrapped in a sheet of white.
