I love observing how light and shadow play with each other in my surroundings. Because of this I am always looking for ways to create abstract representations of everyday objects and scenes. I look for the forming of patterns and geometric shapes, or striking lines and curves. The images in this series are part of a body of work I’m currently creating in which I study surroundings and objects that are in plain sight, but not seen, and how I can make them both beautiful and unrecognizable. For example, these three photographs were created within a 15 sq ft area inside my parents’ home. Shot on expired medium format film and slightly underexposed, the resulting vivid grain and low contrast create an extra layer of abstraction.
