Water visions – Vortex imaginationis
Water is the most precious element on the planet, but it is still undervalued. This image is my little contribution to public awareness of the importance of clean drinking water preservation. There are more and more examples of water privatization attempts because of the greed of a few already wealthy people from international banks and investment funds. We can watch documentaries (Water Barons – directed by Jerome Fritel) about how they try to convince society that water is just one of the financial market products and nothing more. Presented shots try to show how beautiful an abstraction of clean water is in combination with light and shadow. Another message is the importance of keeping this precious element in public hands. The series presents an ongoing project where I explore the fusion of light and shadow with a water environment. I also noticed that this phenomenon deconstructs the observed motif. It is close to the idea of the Russian formalists trying to change everyday reality scenes into artificial visions. We can find similar artistic approaches in photography from the beginning and almost through the whole 20th century. One of them was Vorticism. It was an art direction where the associate photographers didn`t care about the time, space, or story in their taken images. A photograph was more important in a visual than a substantive sense (Vortograph – Alvin Langdon Coburn). In the project, I attempt to weave in a story as the substantive foundation of the Water Visions.
