It was January in Biei, Japan, and I had hoped to capture minimalist photos of trees and snow. It had been snowing almost constantly, until late on this afternoon when filtered sunlight broke through the clouds. I loved how the soft light created gentle shadows on the snow, and I liked the simplicity of how the tree punctuated the corner of the fence. Later, when I looked at the photo again, I realized the shadow was not from the fence, but rather a set of footprints which created a story for me and I like the photo more.
