Title:

COURTS

Description

Basketball courts photographed in Hong Kong and transformed through a minimalist lens into studies of colour, geometry and space. Removed from the noise of play and human activity, these surfaces become quiet compositions where painted lines, worn textures and bold blocks of colour create a visual language of balance, tension and rhythm.

Made through close observation while living in Hong Kong, the series looks beyond documentary description to find moments where everyday public spaces shift into abstraction. Familiar sporting environments are reduced to their essential forms, inviting a slower way of seeing and attention to relationships between shape, scale and surface.

For the Minimalist Photography Awards, I have curated a selection of seven images from the wider series specifically for this submission. COURTS explores how ordinary urban spaces can hold unexpected beauty when viewed with restraint, turning functional places into contemplative images that align with the spirit of minimalist photography: less subject, more perception.
