There are spaces that become something more than architecture. This was one. A passageway at the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA), May 2026.

My eye was drawn to the white planes, the corridor and its entranceway softly mirrored in the high gloss floor, the whole space almost dissolving into a single tone. Standing there, I felt an overwhelming sense of intrigue. I wanted to convey that feeling, pushing the image toward my inner vision rather than what was in front of me. Architecture has always held this for me, the capacity of everyday spaces to carry a meaning far beyond what they are.

I chose to use vast amounts of negative space and a monochromatic tonality, both of which I feel are central to the photograph. Together they symbolise purity and a cleansing of all the exterior noise constantly pulling in different directions. The passageway invites you to move beyond that, to let go of the constant comparisons forced upon us and trust your own voice. The light waiting at the end is intentionally undefined. It could speak to potential, understanding or freedom. In my case, it is clarity.
