The wonderful Camargue salt pans in the South of France, taken from an open-sided helicopter at about 2000′. The pink colour comes from salt loving algae that give flamingos their pink colour. The Camargue is a centre of the sea salt industry in France and the landscape is criss-crossed with roads and concrete ditches that control the flow of sea water from the Mediterranean. In this image the sea salt can be seen clearly as the water evaporates.
