Title: Pole vault minimal

About the Photo:

The “pole vault minimal” series aims to show this highly aesthetic sport in a different way to normal sports photography. The artistic, minimalist depiction is intended to stimulate the viewers imagination.
Seemingly freed from the constraints of gravity, pole vaulters float through the picture. On their way up, they stretch and contort their bodies. Reaching the highest point, they gracefully separate from their pole and glide towards the ground – failed attempts included.
The full bodies are not visible, facial expressions seem to be missing and yet the viewer can grasp the scenario. The compositions seem like silent moments of movement and time, very minimalist without becoming completely abstract. The photos were taken in 2023 at the German Athletics Championships in Düsseldorf and at the annual decathlon meeting in Ratingen, a neighbouring city of Düsseldorf
