The “grounded” series takes up an aspect that plays a role in almost all of my works in varying degrees: consciously looking and paying attention, the loss of seeing and the (often ignorant) acceptance of the everyday. We hardly notice many things, sometimes even people, in our surroundings and only register their existence when something or someone is not working. The asphalt of our cities, roads, sidewalks and cycle paths is something we pay no attention to until we drive over ruts, stumble over bumps or pass ripped up cycle paths. And yet this \”foundation\” is a symbol of many things that we very often lose sight of: important and multi-layered and fascinating, also disturbing and harmful; it can tell stories and shows traces of what may have happened here.
